Cairo, March 19 (NationPress) Palestine has formally requested an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council (LAS) following Israel's renewed and lethal airstrikes on Gaza.

According to Palestine's Permanent Representative to the LAS, Muhannad al-Aklouk, his nation has submitted a request to the General Secretariat of the LAS to convene an extraordinary session of the council at the level of permanent representatives, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Al-Aklouk elaborated that this request was triggered by Israel's latest actions termed as 'crimes of aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing' against the Palestinian populace.

He also highlighted that these incidents have coincided with Israel's cessation of electricity supply to Gaza and the blockade of humanitarian, medical, and relief aid to the area.

The forthcoming extraordinary session, he clarified, aims to evaluate Arab and international initiatives that seek to urge Israel to 'cease its crimes and aggression' against the Palestinian populace and adhere to international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israel executed extensive airstrikes across Gaza, resulting in over 400 fatalities and dismantling a fragile ceasefire that had been in effect since January 19.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operations, stating they were conducted in collaboration with the Israeli Security Agency (ISA).

In a statement, the Israeli military declared on X, 'In accordance with the political echelon, the IDF and ISA are currently conducting extensive strikes on terror targets belonging to the Hamas terrorist organisation in the Gaza Strip.'

Later in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that Israel would escalate its renewed offensive on the enclave, stating that 'from now on, the negotiations (on Gaza ceasefire) will take place only under fire.'
