Panama City (Panama) – Influential politicians and notable figures from Panama gathered for a reception hosted by the Indian Ambassador to Panama, Sumit Seth, to welcome the visiting Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday.

During the event, Panama's Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha Vasquez strongly condemned terrorism and expressed solidarity with India as the Indian delegation concluded its visit to the Central American nation.

"Our journey culminated in an extraordinary reception organized by Ambassador Seth for the diplomatic community and key Panamanian figures. The Foreign Minister, along with Vice-Minister Carlos Hoyos, expressed heartfelt support for India's efforts against terrorism and emphasized strengthening cooperation between our nations," Tharoor shared on X.

As delegates, diplomats, and guests took photos with the visiting group, Tharoor remarked on the enriching interactions he experienced with a diverse array of the diplomatic community at the Ambassador's gathering.

"Among those present at the Ambassador's reception were Genesis Alonjo, MP 2019-24; Lorena Castillo de Valera, former First Lady of Panama; Mehr Eliezer, Miss Panama 2019 and aspiring politician; along with two remarkable women who played key roles in our mission: Kathy Bhiku, an exceptional Indian-Panamanian networker, and Milena Alvarado, an Embassy staffer," the Thiruvananthapuram MP noted as he shared photographs from the event.

In his address, Tharoor articulated the main messages that the Indian mission aimed to convey to the international community.

The Indian delegation also paid a visit to the iconic Panama Canal, which was under U.S. control from 1914 until December 31, 1999. This January, Panama celebrated the 25th anniversary of the canal's handover.

"We couldn't wrap up our trip without a quick visit to the Panama Canal—an engineering wonder from a century ago that remains awe-inspiring to witness, especially when a massive ship is raised and lowered at one of its locks," Tharoor tweeted.

Earlier, the Indian Parliamentary delegation met with President Jose Raul Mulino at the Presidential Palace in Panama City. President Mulino reaffirmed Panama's support for India and its stance against terrorism.
