Rome, Oct 9 (NationPress) Prominent Italian lawmakers and specialists expressed their support for the recent peace accord between Israel and Hamas, expressing optimism that this development will pave the way for revitalizing the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
The agreement is seen as a crucial factor in establishing a lasting governance framework for Gaza and ensuring Israel's security against rising Islamic extremism. This topic was central to discussions that included key representatives from the Jewish community in Rome as well as Israel's Ambassador to Italy, Jonathan Peled, who shared their insights.
“We gather here today to remember the atrocities committed by Hamas and the brutal nature of their terrorist acts, which have left a permanent mark on our collective conscience. In the face of increasing and abhorrent anti-Semitism, we refuse to succumb to the narratives propagated by the misguided figures of our time,” stated Paolo Formentini, Vice President of the Permanent Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Parliament, during an event commemorating the second anniversary of the heinous Hamas attack on Israel.
He continued, “The events of two years ago are etched in global memory, but thankfully, we now see the support of former President Donald Trump. The signing of a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, vigorously endorsed by White House leadership, signifies a historic turning point towards peace and brings us closer to resolving the conflict.”
The event also inspired hopes for renewal and peace, with a focus on the revival of the IMEC, which is deemed vital for connecting India, Italy, and Israel.
Although IMEC was inaugurated in New Delhi in September 2023, its progress was hindered by Hamas's assaults on Israel shortly after its announcement.
With peace appearing on the horizon, there is renewed hope for the restoration of India's historical trade route to Europe, passing through the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel.
