Moscow, April 30 (NationPress) The United States and Russia have not yet engaged in discussions regarding the details of a peace proposal, as stated by Vasily Nebenzya, the Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Both nations are continuing their dialogue aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
“The dialogue between Russia and the US is still in progress, and there are numerous details about the future framework of a peace plan that require further discussion,” Nebenzya remarked at a UN Security Council session focused on Ukraine.
“From the beginning of the conflict, we have expressed our preference for diplomatic methods to achieve the goals of our special military operation. This commitment underscores Russia's dedication to finding enduring solutions that address the fundamental causes of the conflict and prevent its resurgence,” he added.
In contrast, John Kelley, Acting Alternate Representative of the US Mission to the United Nations, emphasized that Russia is currently presented with a significant opportunity for lasting peace in Ukraine, with the full support of the United States for both Moscow and Kyiv in this endeavor.
“At this moment, Russia has a tremendous opportunity to secure a durable peace. The responsibility for concluding the war lies with both Russia and Ukraine,” Kelley stated during the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.
Kelley also mentioned that if both Russia and Ukraine accept the US peace proposal, there could be “immense” benefits for both countries.
“Their economies could start to flourish, their cities could be rebuilt, and their citizens could begin to heal,” he asserted.
Earlier in the week, Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, engaged in a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stressing the importance of enhancing conditions to initiate discussions on achieving peace in Ukraine, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement.
The statement noted, “The conversation centered around the Ukraine crisis. Following the April 25 dialogue between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff, both the foreign minister and the secretary of state underscored the necessity of consolidating the emerging prerequisites for initiating talks to establish a reliable path to long-term, sustainable peace.”
Additionally, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously indicated that President Putin is prepared to resume negotiations with Ukraine without any preconditions.
Moreover, according to Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, the conversation between Putin and Witkoff on April 25, which lasted for three hours, was described as “constructive and quite beneficial.”
