Washington, Feb 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in an insightful discussion with Vivek Ramaswamy, an emerging US politician, focusing on bilateral relations between India and the United States.

According to External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, they discussed India-US relations, innovation, biotechnology, and the impact of entrepreneurship on future developments during their meeting at the Blair House.

Ramaswamy, a billionaire entrepreneur in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and finance, is currently a candidate for the Governor of Ohio.

He previously participated in the Republican presidential primary against President Donald Trump but later withdrew and endorsed him.

Ramaswamy briefly co-led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Elon Musk.

He maintains a close relationship with Trump, who has commended Ramaswamy's intelligence and entrepreneurial spirit.

During the discussions, Ramaswamy advocated for the preservation and reform of the H-1B visa system, which is predominantly utilized by Indian professionals.

He challenged the extreme right's opposition to the program, arguing that immigrants are essential as many Americans lack the same motivation and dedication to education.

Ramaswamy's parents immigrated to the US from the Palakkad district in Kerala, and he grew up in Ohio, with his father retaining his Indian citizenship.

Previously, PM Modi met with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to discuss prospects in space, mobility, technology, and energy, while also sharing insights on governance in both India and the US. Musk, appointed by President Trump to lead DOGE, attended the meeting at Blair House with his family.

On earlier occasions, Prime Minister Modi welcomed National Security Advisor Mike Waltz at Blair House and met Tulsi Gabbard shortly after she was appointed as the Director of National Intelligence, overseeing the US's 18-member Intelligence Community.

PM Modi's visit to Washington DC is for a brief two-day engagement at the invitation of President Trump, marking their first in-person meeting since Trump's return to the White House for a second non-consecutive term. They have communicated via phone twice since Trump's re-election, once in November and again after his January inauguration. Their previous interactions included multiple meetings during Trump's first term, highlighted by joint appearances at the Howdy Modi rally in Houston in 2019 and the Namaste Trump rally in Ahmedabad in 2020.

Upon his arrival in the US on Wednesday (local time), PM Modi expressed enthusiasm for meeting with the US President and advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

In his statements before departing, PM Modi emphasized that this visit would serve as a platform to build upon the achievements from his first term and to outline a future agenda aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two nations.
