Muscat, Dec 17 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Oman's capital, Muscat, on Wednesday, marking the concluding segment of his three-nation tour. He was graciously welcomed at the airport by Oman's Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said.

The two dignitaries exchanged warm greetings upon arrival, and PM Modi was honored with a Guard of Honour as part of the ceremonial reception.

This visit marks Prime Minister Modi's second trip to Oman, illustrating the strengthening of the India-Oman strategic alliance.

The significance of this visit is amplified as it aligns with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. It also follows the state visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to India in December 2023, highlighting the high-level political exchanges between the two nations.

During his time in Oman, PM Modi is set to engage in extensive discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, focusing on a wide range of bilateral matters. Topics on the agenda include trade, investment, energy cooperation, defense, security, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. The leaders will also share insights on regional and global issues of common concern.

In a media briefing prior to the visit, Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs, noted that this is PM Modi's second visit to Oman since his earlier trip in February 2018. He emphasized the enduring nature of India-Oman relations, which are built on centuries of maritime trade and personal connections.

“The Honourable Prime Minister will conduct a thorough review of the diverse aspects of bilateral relations with His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and exchange views on regional and international issues impacting both nations,” Chatterjee remarked.

PM Modi is also anticipated to address a gathering of business leaders from both countries at a forum aimed at enhancing commercial and investment ties.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will engage with the Indian community residing in Oman, recognizing their vital contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Oman's economic growth.

India and Oman currently share a comprehensive strategic partnership, marked by strong cooperation across various sectors. Oman is a critical partner for India in the Gulf region, with significant collaboration in energy security, maritime cooperation, and regional stability.

This visit by Prime Minister Modi is expected to further solidify bilateral ties and infuse new energy into India-Oman collaboration in the years ahead.

PM Modi arrived in Oman following the conclusion of his two-day state visit to Ethiopia. In a notable gesture, Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed Ali personally drove PM Modi to the airport and bid him farewell as he departed for Oman.

During his time in Ethiopia, PM Modi addressed the Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament, laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Monument in Addis Ababa, and visited the Adwa Museum, where officials briefed him on the history of the nation.

Furthermore, PM Modi was honored with Ethiopia's highest civilian award, the 'Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia', expressing his profound gratitude to the people and government of Ethiopia.

PM Modi and his Ethiopian counterpart, Abiy Ahmed Ali, held comprehensive discussions covering a range of topics, including political collaboration, economic links, and strategic partnerships.

In a personal touch, Abiy Ahmed Ali welcomed PM Modi at the airport on Tuesday and drove him from the airport to his hotel.
