Rio de Janeiro, July 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with enthusiasm by President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva upon his arrival at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro for the 17th BRICS Leaders Summit on Sunday.
During this significant summit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in discussions regarding crucial global topics, such as the reform of global governance, peace and security, the enhancement of multilateralism, responsible artificial intelligence usage, climate action, global health, and economic and financial issues.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived in Brazil, marking the fourth stop on his five-nation tour, after concluding a landmark visit to Argentina on Saturday.
This visit marks Prime Minister Modi's fourth journey to Brazil, and he is set to embark on a State Visit to Brasilia after the two-day summit.
Additionally, it is anticipated that Prime Minister Modi will engage in numerous bilateral meetings during the summit's proceedings.
As a founding member, India is dedicated to BRICS as a pivotal platform for collaboration among emerging economies. On the sidelines of the summit, I will also connect with several world leaders,” PM Modi stated earlier this week.
“I will journey to Brasilia for a bilateral State Visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades. This visit will provide a chance to reinforce our close partnership with Brazil and collaborate with my friend, President H.E. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on advancing the priorities of the Global South,” he added.
During the previous BRICS Summit, held under Russia's leadership in Kazan in October 2024, PM Modi emphasized that the event was taking place amidst numerous uncertainties and challenges globally, including conflicts, adverse climatic impacts, and cyber threats, heightening expectations for BRICS.
This summit carries significant weight for New Delhi, as India will assume the BRICS Chairmanship next year. India last held the BRICS Chairmanship in 2021, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the grouping.
