How Proud is PM Modi of Our Indian Diaspora in Namibia?

Windhoek, July 9 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conveyed his deep pride in the Indian diaspora residing in Namibia, commending their dedication to maintaining Indian culture in the area and strengthening the relationship between India and this southern African nation.

In a message on X, PM Modi stated, "The Indian community in Namibia is highly optimistic about enhancing the India-Namibia friendship, as evidenced by the warm welcome in Windhoek. I am immensely proud of our diaspora, especially their ability to stay connected to their culture and traditions."

Upon arriving in Namibia earlier that day as part of the final leg of his five-nation tour, he was met with a magnificent traditional welcome at Hosea Kutako International Airport, where he was greeted by Namibia's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi.

Local musicians and dancers entertained at the reception, and in a heartwarming moment that drew cheers, the Prime Minister joined the performers to play Namibian drums, showcasing his appreciation for local customs.

This marks Prime Minister Modi's inaugural visit to Namibia and only the third visit by an Indian Prime Minister in the last 27 years.

Shortly after landing, he expressed his enthusiasm on X, sharing, "Landed in Windhoek just now. Namibia is a valued and trusted African partner with whom we aim to enhance bilateral cooperation."

During his stay, PM Modi plans to engage in talks with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Both leaders are anticipated to discuss expanding collaboration across various sectors such as energy, healthcare, education, digital technology, and developmental support.

Additionally, PM Modi will address a Joint Session of the Namibian Parliament, marking a significant moment in India-Namibia diplomatic ties.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and Namibia share a historically robust relationship, rooted in India's early support for Namibia's independence movement. India raised the issue of Namibian independence at the United Nations as early as 1946.

Ahead of his trip, PM Modi referred to Namibia as "a trusted partner" with whom India shares a mutual history of resistance against colonialism.

"I look forward to meeting President H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to establish a new roadmap for cooperation benefiting our peoples, our regions, and the broader Global South. It will be a privilege to also address the Joint Session of the Namibian Parliament as we commemorate our enduring solidarity and shared commitment to freedom and development.

PM Modi also expressed confidence that his visits to the five nations will strengthen India's friendships across the Global South, enhance partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic, and deepen engagements within multilateral frameworks like BRICS, the African Union, ECOWAS, and CARICOM.
