Windhoek, July 9 (NationPress) The President of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit as a landmark occasion, emphasizing that it marks the first State Visit she is hosting since assuming the presidency of this African nation earlier this year.

"This event holds tremendous significance for me personally, as since I took office as the President of the Republic of Namibia on March 21 this year, this is the inaugural State Visit that I am hosting and I regard it with great importance," Nandi-Ndaitwah stated during the delegation-level discussions with PM Modi.

Highlighting the potential for enhancing bilateral collaboration, Ndaitwah pointed out the increasing trade and investment connections, technical partnerships, political ties, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

"The continuous high-ranking visits and organized bilateral frameworks, such as our Joint Commission of Cooperation and Joint Trade Committee, have allowed us to enrich our relationship across various domains," she remarked.

She noted that the relationship has evolved in sectors like ICT, human resource development, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and defense, as well as biodiversity conservation.

Ndaitwah also referenced the successful relocation of Cheetahs from Namibia to India.

"This initiative is not merely an ecological restoration act; it stands as a global emblem of innovative South-South cooperation and sustainable partnerships," she added.

The Namibian President welcomed India's initiative under the pharmacy of the world plan to set up a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Windhoek, which would significantly bolster regional health security and align with Namibia’s aim of enhancing local production capabilities in the health sector.

Discussions during the one-on-one meetings between the two leaders also covered the expansion of trade and investment, as well as opportunities for collaboration in areas such as green hydrogen, clean hydrogen, mining and value addition, oil and gas, infrastructure development, agriculture and food security, and tourism.

Ndaitwah urged for a unified approach and regular consultations on critical issues, including the necessity for reforming the UN Security Council and other multilateral institutions.

"We share a mutual belief in achieving fairer and more equitable representation and a democratic UNSC, reflecting the contemporary geopolitical landscape, and therefore should unite to ensure that the desired reforms are realized as soon as possible," she stated.
