Thimphu, Nov 11 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Thimphu on Tuesday for a two-day engagement, warmly welcomed by the Bhutanese Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay.
The primary goal of this visit is to enhance the India-Bhutan relationship and reaffirm India's dedication to its Neighbourhood First Policy.
"Just arrived in Bhutan. I am thankful to Prime Minister Tobgay for the heartfelt welcome at the airport. This visit showcases the enduring friendship and cooperation our nations share. India and Bhutan have a long-standing partnership built on trust, goodwill, and mutual respect. I eagerly anticipate strengthening our ties further during this visit," PM Modi shared on X.
Welcoming PM Modi, Tshering Tobgay expressed on social media, "I join the entire nation in welcoming my elder brother Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bhutan."
In his departure remarks, PM Modi noted, "I am set to visit the Kingdom of Bhutan from 11-12 November 2025. It is a privilege to join the Bhutanese people in celebrating the 70th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King."
His visit aligns with the exhibition of the Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha from India. He plans to offer prayers at Tashichhodzong in Thimphu and take part in the Global Peace Prayer Festival organized by the Royal Government of Bhutan.
PM Modi remarked, "The display of the Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha from India during the Global Peace Prayer Festival in Bhutan symbolizes the profound civilizational and spiritual connections between our nations."
The visit will also signify a significant milestone in the energy partnership with the inauguration of the Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project.
PM Modi expressed excitement about meeting the Bhutanese King, the Fourth King, and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
"I am optimistic that my visit will further cement our friendship and enhance our collaborative efforts towards shared growth and prosperity," he stated.
