What Will PM Modi's Upcoming Visit to Namibia Focus On?

Windhoek, July 1 (NationPress) The Namibian Presidency has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Southwestern African nation on July 9 aims to discover new pathways for enhancing bilateral cooperation between India and Namibia.

Namibia will mark the final destination of PM Modi's five-nation tour, following his stops in Ghana (July 2-3), Trinidad and Tobago (July 3-4), Argentina (July 4-5), and Brazil (July 5-8).

This visit will be PM Modi's first to Namibia, and it will also be the third-ever Prime Ministerial visit from India to this nation. Notably, it will be the inaugural bilateral State Visit hosted by President Nandi-Ndaitwah since she assumed office in March.

According to Alfredo Hengari, the Press Secretary of Namibia, "Motivated by a mutual aspiration to enhance bilateral ties, the leaders will oversee the signing of cooperation agreements covering areas such as trade and investment, the environment, education, health, and ICT," as reported by the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) on Monday (local time).

PM Modi's agenda includes addressing a joint session of Parliament and visiting Heroes' Acre, a national war memorial in Windhoek.

The Press Secretary further stated that PM Modi and Namibia's President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will share perspectives on global issues of mutual significance.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) indicated that PM Modi's imminent visit to Namibia, being the first since President Nandi-Ndaitwah took office, is a crucial move toward revitalizing bilateral relations and enriching economic collaboration between the two nations.

The MEA remarked that PM Modi's visit on July 9, occurring early in Nandi-Ndaitwah's presidency, would significantly assist in renewing relations and enhancing economic cooperation.

During his trip, PM Modi is expected to engage in discussions with President Nandi-Ndaitwah and pay tribute to the Founding Father and first President of Namibia, the Late Dr. Sam Nujoma.

India and Namibia share strong historical ties, with New Delhi recognizing the nation well before it gained independence in 1990.

The two countries maintain a warm relationship and collaborate across a broad spectrum, including environment and biodiversity, trade and investments, mining, diamond processing, energy, healthcare, defense, agriculture, capacity building, and education.

PM Modi's upcoming visit is anticipated to further strengthen and deepen the bilateral relations between these two nations.
