Colombo, Sep 17 (NationPress) Special prayers were conducted at the Bambalapitiya Bohra Mosque in Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital, on Wednesday, as community members extended heartfelt wishes for good health, longevity, and ongoing success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in celebration of his 75th birthday.
The Husaini Masjid, located on Glenaber Place in Bambalapitiya, stands as the largest Dawoodi Bohra mosque in the country. The congregation often gathers to acknowledge Prime Minister Modi's enduring connection with the community and his commendable contributions.
Throughout his engagements with Dawoodi Bohra members in India and across the globe, PM Modi has consistently emphasized his strong relationship with the community.
“Whenever I travel, whether within the country or overseas, my Bohra brothers and sisters always come to see me,” the Prime Minister has previously expressed, underscoring the affection and support of the Bohra community for India.
Earlier this year, a group of Dawoodi Bohra Community members visited PM Modi at his residence in Lok Kalyan Marg, expressing gratitude for the implementation of the Waqf Amendment Act.
The delegation comprised business leaders, professionals, doctors, educators, and notable representatives from the Dawoodi Bohra community. They shared their challenges and recounted instances where properties belonging to community members were wrongly claimed by Waqf.
PM Modi commended the community's tradition of striving for social welfare, which he has observed over the years.
“He also highlighted the community's significant role in facilitating the Act. He mentioned that one of the first individuals he consulted when initiating the Waqf Amendment Act was Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who played a crucial part in providing detailed insights regarding various aspects of the Act,” the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) revealed following PM Modi's meeting with the Dawoodi Bohra Community delegation earlier this April.
The Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, which has previously organized religious ceremonies for PM Modi's birthday, is also set to hold a gathering of monks on the same day to commemorate the occasion.
