Bratislava, April 11 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu expressed her appreciation for the Indian community's efforts in enhancing the India-Slovakia relationship during a lively reception held for the Indian diaspora in Bratislava.

The President emphasized India's remarkable growth and achievements, noting that they are not only inspiring but also inclusive, ensuring advantages for all segments of society.

"In every discussion I had with Slovak leaders, I felt gratified to learn that they acknowledged the dedication of the Indian community. There exists a profound respect for the significant contributions of the Indian community towards Slovakia's growth and advancement," President Murmu remarked in her speech on Thursday.

"It is uplifting to observe that India's heritage and traditions are widely embraced by our Slovak counterparts. From Yoga and Ayurveda to Indian culinary delights, the affection for Indian culture evident in Slovakia demonstrates the strengthening bonds between the citizens of both nations," she further stated.

President Murmu mentioned that translating the Upanishads into Slovak would provide an excellent opportunity for Slovak individuals to engage with the ancient wisdom of India.

She highlighted that the Indian community plays a crucial role as a representative of Indian culture, which is essential for fortifying India-Slovakia relations.

Moreover, she added that both nations have their ambassadors who serve as a link between the two countries. "However, the Indian community also acts as one of those ambassadors as they embody India, elevate its stature, and enhance its pride."

"I am confident that you will persist in your endeavors to serve as a robust medium of connection between both countries," she remarked.

On Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu and President Peter Pellegrini of Slovakia collaboratively planted a Linden tree, Slovakia's national tree, at the City Park in Sihot, Nitra.

Marek Hattas, the Mayor of Nitra, was also present during the event. President Murmu briefed President Pellegrini about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, an innovative environmental campaign honoring mothers' roles in nurturing life while contributing to planetary health.

President Pellegrini expressed enthusiasm about the idea and mentioned that Slovakia could consider launching a similar initiative.

President Murmu also visited Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, where she was awarded an Honoris Causa Doctorate in recognition of her exceptional service in public governance, advocacy for social equity, and contributions toward education, women empowerment, and the promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity.

In her acceptance speech, the President conveyed that this honor symbolizes recognition for a nation and civilization that has long been a beacon of peace and knowledge.

Receiving this degree from an institution named after the philosopher Saint Constantine Cyril holds special significance, she stated.

President Murmu articulated that education serves as a means of "not only fostering individual empowerment but also facilitating national progress. Understanding this, India has prioritized education within its national development strategy. With half of its population under 25 years old, India is investing in its youth to cultivate the knowledge economy of the future."

"While India embraces modernity and technology, our advancement remains deeply rooted in the wisdom of our ancient philosophical traditions. Just as Saint Constantine Cyril's efforts established the foundation for Slavic linguistic and cultural identity, Indian philosophical traditions have long influenced the intellectual and spiritual landscape of our society. I was pleased to observe that the eternal wisdom of the Upanishads resonates in Slovakia as well," she continued.

Earlier, President Murmu visited an exhibition showcasing paintings by Slovak children. The Slovak-Indian Friendship Society, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, has organized the painting competition 'Beauty Hidden in Fairy Tales - India through the Eyes of Slovak Children' since 2015.

She also attended a puppet show on the Ramayana conducted by Lenka Mukova, a member of the Babadlo Puppet Theatre in Presov, which has been educating children through puppetry for three decades.

President Murmu concluded her visit by attending a banquet in her honor, hosted by President Pellegrini at the historic Bratislava Castle. Slovak artists showcased compelling musical performances, including the National Anthem, underscoring the strong cultural ties between the two nations.

This marks the first visit by an Indian President to Slovakia in nearly thirty years.
