Pro-Government Forces Report Eight Houthis Killed in Yemen

Aden, Dec 24 (NationPress) Yemen's pro-government forces reported on Tuesday that eight Houthi fighters lost their lives and 15 others were injured amid fierce confrontations in the southwestern province of Taiz.

In a concise press release, the pro-government forces claimed that the Houthis initiated a failed offensive in an effort to breach the fortified military positions held by the government in the northwestern area of Taiz in recent hours.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the sighting of Houthi medical teams evacuating the wounded from the combat zone and transporting them to medical facilities outside Taiz.

Reports indicated that the Houthis sent significant reinforcements from adjacent provinces, including Ibb, to strengthen their offensive against the government forces in Taiz, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

So far, the Houthis have not released any official comments concerning the ongoing clashes in Taiz. However, pro-Houthi media channels have accused the pro-government forces of colluding with foreign entities, including the United States and Israel, as part of a broader campaign against Yemen.

Yemen has been experiencing a state of uneasy calm since October 2, 2022, when the government and the Houthi faction failed to renew and extend a UN-brokered ceasefire.

Despite extensive diplomatic efforts, both parties have yet to come to an agreement to resolve the conflict, which the UN estimates has resulted in hundreds of thousands of fatalities and pushed millions to the brink of famine.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced early Tuesday that they successfully intercepted a missile launched by Houthi forces in Yemen.

The missile, directed towards Tel Aviv, activated air-raid sirens across central and southern Israel, compelling millions of residents to seek shelter just before 2 am local time (0000 GMT).

"A projectile launched from Yemen was intercepted before entering Israeli territory," the IDF stated, adding that the sirens were triggered as a precaution due to the potential for falling debris from the interception.

Magen David Adom, Israel's emergency service, reported that a woman suffered serious injuries after falling while hurrying to a shelter.

This missile strike occurred just a day after Houthi forces conducted a drone assault on Israel, which was also neutralized according to the IDF. The Houthis have intermittently targeted Israel since October in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.

In response, Israel has executed several extensive airstrikes on Yemen, with the most recent one taking place on Thursday.
