Aden, Dec 13 (NationPress) The forces of the Yemeni government announced that they have successfully countered three infiltration attempts made by the Houthi group in the southwestern province of Taiz, leading to the deaths of two militants and injuries to multiple others.

The Taiz Military Axis, representing the government’s military faction, released a statement denouncing the persistent escalation of conflicts by the Houthi group, which includes assaults on civilians and attacks on government military facilities in Taiz, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

As per the statement, government forces successfully thwarted three distinct infiltration attempts by the Houthi group in recent hours.

Additionally, government troops targeted Houthi artillery positions responsible for shelling civilian areas in Taiz city and its western outskirts.

This latest confrontation follows a series of recent Houthi drone strikes on government positions located in the Dhubab area, west of Taiz, as well as bombardments of residential areas held by government forces, according to the statement.

Since October 2, 2022, Yemen has experienced a fragile calm following the failure of both the government and the Houthi group to extend and expand a UN-mediated ceasefire.

In spite of ongoing diplomatic efforts over the years, neither party has demonstrated a willingness to rekindle discussions aimed at resolving the conflict, which the UN estimates has resulted in the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives and has pushed millions to the brink of famine.
