Pro-Government Source Reports Houthi Attack Claims Lives of Two Soldiers in Yemen

Aden, Dec 21 (NationPress) Armed clashes between pro-government forces and Houthi militants broke out in the Taiz province of southwestern Yemen, leading to the death of two soldiers and injuring four others, as reported by a military official.

The anonymous local pro-government official indicated that the confrontations took place on the Kalaba front, located to the northeast of Taiz city, as Houthi militants sought to push into areas controlled by the government in recent hours, according to Xinhua news agency.

"The Houthis are mobilizing their fighters across various locations in Taiz, worried about the potential advancements by government forces," the official stated.

On Thursday, the Yemeni armed forces, loyal to the internationally recognized government, announced their readiness to engage the Houthis, labeling the group as being in a state of confusion and weakness.

Yemen has experienced a fragile calm since October 2, 2022, when the government and the Houthi group did not manage to renew or expand a UN-brokered truce.

Despite extensive diplomatic efforts, neither faction has demonstrated a willingness to resume talks aimed at ending the conflict, which the UN estimates has resulted in hundreds of thousands of fatalities and pushed millions to the brink of famine.

Earlier in December, a Houthi drone strike on a busy market in Taiz province resulted in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to eight others.

The local pro-government military official, who chose to remain anonymous, reported on Sunday that "the Houthi bombing took place in the Maqbanah district of Taiz during a bustling market day when numerous residents were present."

This attack has faced severe backlash from the Yemeni government, which has directly accused the Houthi group of perpetrating the incident.

Muammar al-Eryani, the information minister of Yemen, characterized the bombing as an "extension of systematic and deliberate killings" executed by Houthi militias against civilians in Taiz.
