Projected HIV Cases in the Philippines May Reach 215,400 by Year-End

Manila, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines has indicated that the total number of individuals living with HIV (PLHIV) in the nation is anticipated to reach 215,400 by the end of this year.
Out of the estimated PLHIV, 131,335 cases have been diagnosed or confirmed through laboratory testing and are currently living, with no reports of their deaths as of September, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Referring to estimates from the AIDS Epidemic Model, the DOH noted that the number of PLHIV in the Philippines could soar to nearly 448,000 by 2030 if preventative measures and interventions are not increased.
In an effort to address the escalating cases, the DOH has partnered with the Philippine National AIDS Council to officially kick off a campaign on Sunday, coinciding with the observance of the 2024 Philippine World AIDS Day.
The campaign aims to combat stigma and foster discussions regarding HIV/AIDS prevention. The public is encouraged to remember that they can access regular testing at primary care facilities, local clinics, health centers, and mobile testing units with confidentiality.
