On January 14, Washington (NationPress) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a phone conversation with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, focusing on significant areas of collaboration, such as civil nuclear energy, trade negotiations, and regional security within the Indo-Pacific.

“We discussed trade, critical minerals, nuclear cooperation, defense, and energy. Both parties agreed to maintain communication on these and additional matters,” shared EAM Jaishankar on X following their discussion.

US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, characterized the call as constructive. “They deliberated on the next steps concerning our bilateral trade discussions, critical minerals, and a potential meeting next month,” Gor stated on X.

During the conversation, Rubio congratulated India for passing the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India bill, a newly enacted law that is an integral part of India’s nuclear energy strategy, as mentioned by Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

Pigott noted that the United States is eager to build upon this legislation to enhance civil nuclear collaboration between the two nations.
