Washington, Jan 22 (NationPress) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated his vision for the State Department in his inaugural remarks, emphasizing a desire for the department to play a central role in America’s global engagement and not be pushed into a secondary position.

Rubio was confirmed as the 72nd Secretary of State by the US Senate on Monday and took the oath of office on Tuesday morning, administered by Vice President J.D. Vance, a former colleague.

In a live-streamed address to State Department employees at embassies and missions worldwide, Rubio expressed his ambition for the department to be relevant and the focal point of US diplomacy.

“While I don’t claim that it’s irrelevant now, I envision it being in its rightful place,” he remarked.

“I aim for the Department of State to be at the core of how America interacts with the world, focusing not only on execution but also on formulation.”

He outlined his goal of fostering an environment within the Department that encourages creativity, boldness, and innovation, reflecting the fast-paced changes in our dynamic world.

“When the time arrives for key officials to convene, I want the State Department to present the finest ideas and options for the President, ensuring we execute them more effectively than any other agency,” Rubio stated.

Having previously observed the State Department's status from the Congressional side, he noted that at times, the department has been sidelined in favor of other agencies that may appear more agile or innovative.

Rubio refrained from naming specific agencies, though it is evident that the National Security Council, which operates from the White House, benefits from its immediate access to the President.

The National Security Council has emerged as a significant contender in shaping US foreign policy.

Rubio asserted, “We are going to change that. Our aim is to be at the forefront. We want to lead in formulating foreign policy with superior ideas and execution compared to any other government agency. I have full confidence in our team to accomplish this mission.”

The newly appointed Secretary of State reminded the staff that the Department would be executing President Donald Trump’s foreign policy vision, which he described as anything that enhances the nation’s strength, safety, and prosperity.
