Moscow, Jan 18 (NationPress) Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian officially ratified a new comprehensive strategic partnership agreement after their discussions in Moscow.
The agreement, which has been made available on the Kremlin website, outlines a commitment to enhance collaboration in sectors such as trade, investment, defence, security, space, energy, and counterterrorism.
Additionally, the document asserts that both nations will oppose third-party sanctions imposed against one another and will work to thwart any unilateral coercive measures, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
According to the Kremlin, Putin highlighted that this significant agreement is designed to foster conditions for the stable and sustainable development of both Russia and Iran, as well as the broader Eurasian region.
He noted that the new treaty sets forth ambitious objectives and lays down a framework for enhancing long-term cooperation in diverse areas including politics, security, trade, investment, and humanitarian issues.
Putin emphasized that Russia and Iran have cultivated extensive and mutually advantageous relations, and this agreement will further fortify their ties across all sectors.
He remarked, “We need less bureaucracy and more concrete action. Whatever challenges arise from others, we will be able to navigate through them and progress,” alluding to the Western sanctions impacting both nations.
Putin also mentioned that Russia routinely updates Iran regarding developments in the Ukraine conflict and maintains close consultations on matters concerning the Middle East and the South Caucasus.
The Iranian leader expressed that this new agreement signifies the beginning of an enhanced phase in the relations between Russia and Iran, aiming to elevate their bilateral economic and trade connections.
He stated, “This meeting ... and the agreements reached between our countries serve as another impetus for building a multipolar world. And, of course, this primarily concerns the development of Iran and Russia,” Pezeshkian remarked.
Throughout the discussions, both leaders also addressed various foreign policy matters, finding substantial alignment between Moscow and Tehran.
