Ottawa, Nov 28 (NationPress) The Indian Consulate General in Toronto has conveyed profound grief regarding the tragic deaths of Indian nationals in a catastrophic fire incident in Brampton, Canada. The mission stated that it has reached out to the grieving families and is committed to providing all essential support to them.
“We are heartbroken over the tragic loss of lives of Indian nationals in the devastating fire incident in Brampton. The Consulate extends its heartfelt condolences to the mourning families and stands alongside them during this difficult time. We have contacted the family, and all necessary aid is being provided,” stated the Indian Consulate General in Toronto, in a post on X.
The tragic event took place on November 20 on Banas Way in Brampton, where a rapidly escalating fire ensnared multiple family members inside, according to local media.
Five members of an Indian family, including a 2-year-old boy, lost their lives in this incident. All victims hailed from Guram village in Ludhiana.
The deceased were identified as Harinder Kaur, her daughter-in-law Gurjeet Kaur, her two-year-old grandson Bantbeer Singh, and her niece Anu.
Additionally, three other family members suffered serious injuries and were transported to the hospital, including Harinder’s daughter Arshveer Kaur, her son Amritveer Singh, and five-year-old grandson Jorawar Singh. Arshveer, who was nine months pregnant, managed to survive by leaping from the roof in a desperate attempt to escape, but tragically lost her unborn child. Her husband, Jugraj Singh, a truck driver, was at work during the incident.
Authorities have yet to comment on the potential cause of the fire; however, Canadian police officer Tyler Bell noted earlier this week that, at this stage, there are no indications of criminal activity.
Last week, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown expressed his condolences to the victims and their families during a press conference.
“Words fail to capture the sadness surrounding this fire. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire community as they face this overwhelming tragedy,” the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation quoted him as saying.
