Moscow, Jan 23 (NationPress) Russia is prepared for an equal dialogue with the United States and is awaiting a sign from Washington, according to Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday.
In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump expressed that he does not wish to harm Russia and called for an immediate resolution to the Ukraine situation.
Trump stated he would impose additional sanctions and taxes on all Russian products if a deal could not be reached.
"If we don't make a 'deal', and soon, I have no other choice but to implement high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything sold by Russia to the US, and other participating nations," Trump noted on his Truth Social network.
The US President remarked he was "not looking to hurt Russia" and had "always enjoyed a very good relationship with President Putin," a leader he has previously admired.
"That being said, I'm going to do Russia, whose economy is struggling, and President Putin, a very significant FAVOUR. Resolve this now, and STOP this absurd War! IT'S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE."
"Resolve this now, and end this absurd war! It will only escalate. If we don't finalize a 'deal' soon, I have no other choice but to impose high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on any goods sold by Russia to the United States, along with various other participating countries. Let's bring an end to this war, which never would have started if I were President. We can do it the easy way or the hard way - and the easy way is always preferable. It’s time to ‘make a deal’. No more lives should be lost," Trump continued.
When asked about Trump's remarks, Peskov stated, "We are attentively observing all the rhetoric and statements."
"We remain open for dialogue, as President Vladimir Putin has frequently mentioned," he added, noting that Moscow anticipates any potential dialogue to be equal and mutually respectful, according to Xinhua news agency.
Peskov further indicated that Russia is still awaiting signals from the US side.
