New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) Russian President Vladimir Putin laid a wreath and offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Friday.

Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh joined President Putin during his visit to Rajghat. The Russian leader also inscribed his thoughts in the visitor's book.

Prior to this, Putin received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu greeted him. Both leaders introduced dignitaries from their respective nations at this official venue.

In the later hours, PM Modi and President Putin are set to engage in official discussions at Hyderabad House, focusing on key topics including defence, energy collaboration, regional security, and sustainable economic partnerships.

Following their talks, the two leaders will hold a joint press conference. Putin is also scheduled to attend a business event aimed at bolstering trade and investment relations.

In the evening, the Russian President will be honored with a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Putin commenced his State Visit to India on Thursday evening, marked by a personal touch from PM Modi, who welcomed him at the airport and traveled with him in the same vehicle.

On Thursday, PM Modi presented a Russian version of the Bhagavad Gita to President Putin, referring to the scripture as a source of inspiration for people globally.

Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared an image of the moment he gifted the Russian edition of the Gita to President Putin, stating, "Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita inspire millions worldwide."

In the shared photograph, both leaders are depicted holding the book as PM Modi bestows it upon the Russian President.

This visit, filled with high-profile engagements throughout the capital, highlights the enduring strategic importance of India-Russia relations amidst evolving global geopolitics.

Upon Putin's arrival, PM Modi and the Russian leader exchanged a warm embrace, showcasing their familiarity, followed by a brief cultural performance arranged for the ceremonial welcome.

New Delhi made extensive arrangements for the visit, with significant thoroughfares such as Lok Kalyan Marg adorned with India-Russia flags and special lighting, setting a symbolic and substantive tone for the itinerary.
