New Delhi, Nov 21 (NationPress) Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday that India and Singapore are enhancing their collaboration in cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the field of semiconductors, following a series of high-level discussions in Singapore.
The minister highlighted that the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) will closely collaborate with India to back approved semiconductor initiatives.
"The Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) is joining forces with Bharat to bolster our authorized semiconductor endeavors," stated the Union Minister.
He further remarked that comprehensive discussions were conducted with numerous Singapore-based firms to gain insights into their experiences, the challenges they encounter, and the necessary actions to expedite the transfer of semiconductor equipment and materials.
"In-depth talks were held with Singapore companies regarding their experiences, significant challenges, and strategies to hasten the movement of equipment and materials," Vaishnaw noted.
Meetings were also held with representatives from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, Enterprise Singapore, the Institute of Technical Education, Singapore Polytechnic, and A*STAR. These discussions concentrated on the training of technicians and engineers essential for India’s forthcoming semiconductor facilities.
"Talks about training technicians and engineers for semiconductor projects took place with officials from MTI, Enterprise SG, Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore Polytechnic (SP), and A*STAR," he added.
Vaishnaw also conferred with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Trade & Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong, discussing avenues for broadening bilateral cooperation in emerging technology sectors.
"We engaged in talks about amplifying bilateral collaboration, especially in the realms of emerging technologies," Vaishnaw stated.
The minister revealed that global semiconductor distributor Avnet has committed to expanding its warehousing and electronics operations in India, further enhancing the supply chain as the nation intensifies its efforts in chip manufacturing.
"Avnet plays a crucial role in semiconductor and electronics warehousing. Their commitment to expanding operations in India is significant," the Union Minister emphasized.
