Slovenia Experiences Highest Unemployment Rate in Over Three Years

Ljubljana, Nov 30 (NationPress) Slovenia's unemployment rate has surged to 4.9 per cent in October, reaching its highest point since March 2021, as reported by the nation's Statistical Office.

This rate represents an increase of 0.4 percentage points from September and a rise of 1.4 percentage points compared to October 2022, when it was at 3.5 per cent. The unemployment figure in September was 4.5 per cent, according to the Xinhua news agency.

The report indicated that the jobless rate among men stood at 5 per cent, which is slightly above the 4.8 per cent recorded for women.

The uptick in unemployment is attributed to numerous Slovenian companies experiencing a decrease in demand for their products, prompting plans for workforce reductions. For instance, the Slovenian division of the German car parts manufacturer Mahle has declared its intention to lay off 600 workers in Slovenia next year.

In light of the rising joblessness, the government has revealed intentions to roll out a new initiative in the upcoming months aimed at offering state subsidies for individuals who are temporarily unemployed.
