New Delhi, July 31 (NationPress) Recent data from the annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) reveals that the estimated Unemployment Rate (UR) for India’s youths aged 15-29 has seen a significant decline from 17.8 percent in 2017-18 to 10.2 percent in 2023-24, as reported to Parliament on Thursday.
According to the latest Annual PLFS Reports, the estimated Worker Population Ratio (WPR), which reflects employment across both public and private sectors for individuals aged 15 and older, has risen from 50.9 percent in 2019-20 to 58.2 percent in 2023-24, stated the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, in a written response to a query in the Rajya Sabha.
In rural regions, the estimated WPR has increased from 53.3 percent in 2019–20 to 62.1 percent in 2023–24. Meanwhile, urban employment estimates climbed from 45.8 percent to 49.4 percent during the same timeframe, according to the minister.
The most recent Annual PLFS reports also indicate that the estimated UR for individuals aged 15 and above has decreased from 6 percent in 2017-18 to 3.2 percent in 2023-24, as per the minister's statement.
