Seoul, Nov 26 (NationPress) A special counsel team in South Korea has called for a 15-year prison sentence for ex-Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, accused of aiding former President Yoon Suk Yeol in the implementation of martial law.
During the concluding hearing of Han's trial at the Seoul Central District Court, special counsel Cho Eun-suk made this demand, marking Han as the first among numerous defendants in the martial law case to receive a sentencing suggestion, according to Yonhap News Agency.
“Despite being the only individual capable of averting the insurrection, he neglected his responsibilities as a public servant and engaged in criminal acts related to the insurrection before and after the martial law was declared,” stated a member of the special counsel team.
Han faces charges of supporting the leader of an insurrection, participating actively in the insurrection, and committing perjury, all linked to the martial law declaration.
He attended a Cabinet meeting right before Yoon announced the martial law on December 3, allegedly modified the proclamation post-declaration to bolster its legitimacy, disposed of it, and lied under oath at the Constitutional Court.
