Tragic Incident in South Korea: Seven Lives Lost, One Missing After Fishing Vessel Capsizes

Gyeongju/Seoul, Dec 9 (NationPress) Seven individuals perished and one individual is still missing following the capsizing of a fishing vessel off the southeastern coast on Monday, as reported by the Coast Guard.
The 29-ton fishing boat, named Geumgwang, had eight crew members on board when it collided with a 456-ton cargo ship and overturned in waters close to Gyeongju, approximately 270 kilometres southeast of Seoul, at 5:43 AM.
Seven crew members -- three South Koreans and four foreign nationals -- were discovered inside the vessel in a state of cardiac arrest. They were transported to hospitals but were subsequently pronounced dead, according to the Coast Guard.
A search operation is currently underway for the remaining individual, who is identified as an Indonesian national, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
There were ten individuals aboard the cargo ship; however, none sustained injuries, and the vessel appeared undamaged, according to officials.
The Coast Guard has dispatched patrol boats, rescue vessels, and helicopters to the location and has requested assistance from the oceans ministry, Navy, and firefighting agencies.
Earlier, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo issued an order for an emergency rescue operation.
