Trudeau Urges Serious Consideration of Trump's Tariff Threats

Ottawa, Nov 30 (NationPress) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the tariff threats from incoming US President Donald Trump deserve serious attention.
"One of the crucial points to recognize is that when Donald Trump makes such declarations, he intends to follow through," Trudeau noted during his visit to Prince Edward Island.
"There’s no doubt about it," he added, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Trudeau explained, "He would not only be detrimental to Canadians, but he would also inflate prices for American consumers and negatively impact American industries and businesses."
The Prime Minister indicated that Canada can maintain a similar collaborative approach with Trump as it did throughout his initial presidential term.
On Wednesday evening, Trudeau held a virtual assembly with all 13 provincial leaders to deliberate over Trump's tariff threats. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland urged the premiers to leverage all their networks, resources, and capabilities to communicate essential information and messages to influential Americans.
They unanimously agreed to persist in their close collaboration to advocate for Canada's interests and the robust economic connections that foster prosperity on both sides of the border, across various economic sectors.
Trump declared on Monday his intention to implement a 25 percent tariff on all goods imported from Canada and Mexico immediately upon taking office, stating that these tariffs would remain until both nations take action against drug trafficking and illegal immigration into the United States.
Statistics Canada reported that for the first nine months of this year, Canada exported over $300 billion worth of goods to the United States.
