Washington, Sep 19 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump engaged in a phone discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, revealing that the Chinese leader has given the green light for the TikTok agreement, allowing the popular social media platform to continue its operations in the US.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump expressed his gratitude for the TikTok approval and shared his eagerness to meet President Xi at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in South Korea next month.
Trump noted, "I just completed a very productive call with President Xi of China. We have made headway on several critical matters, including Trade, Fentanyl, and the urgent need to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, in addition to the approval of the TikTok Deal. I also confirmed with President Xi that we would meet at the APEC Summit in South Korea, that I would travel to China in early next year, and that President Xi would visit the United States at a suitable time," Trump stated.
The Chinese readout of the call indicated that the two leaders had a "pragmatic, positive, and constructive" conversation.
Regarding TikTok, Xi emphasized that China maintains a "clear" stance, asserting that it "respects the aspirations of companies and encourages them to engage in commercial negotiations under market principles, ultimately achieving solutions that are in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations while balancing interests."
He also expressed that China "hopes the US will foster an open, fair, and non-discriminatory business climate for Chinese firms looking to invest in the US."
President Xi acknowledged the "recent consultations between the two teams," believing that they exhibited the spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
Furthermore, the Chinese President cautioned that the "US should refrain from implementing unilateral trade restrictions that could jeopardize the progress made through various rounds of discussions."
Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced the establishment of a framework agreement with China regarding TikTok after two days of negotiations in Madrid, Spain.
The discussions involved US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer representing the US, alongside Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and top trade negotiator Li Chenggang representing China.
Bessent stated in Madrid, "We have a framework for a TikTok deal."
However, both parties have yet to disclose the specifics of the TikTok agreement.
