Washington, March 28 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump announced his upcoming visit to China, underscoring his close personal rapport with President Xi Jinping. He reiterated the ongoing competition between the United States and Beijing regarding trade and economic strategies.

During his remarks at the Future Investment Initiative summit held in Miami, Trump spoke about his strong connection with Xi. “I have a great relationship with him,” he stated, referring to their collaborative efforts on various issues, including a deal concerning TikTok.

Trump revealed that he personally encouraged Xi to approve the transaction after other attempts had failed. “I reached out to President Xi… ‘Would you mind doing me a favor? Would you approve it?’… He replied, ‘Sure, I’ll do it,’” he recounted.

The president emphasized that the agreement is advantageous for both nations, mentioning that the investors involved hold significant interests in China. He attributed the successful outcome to his direct communication with Chinese leaders.

However, Trump also highlighted the competitive aspect of the relationship, particularly in trade. He mentioned that tariffs during his presidency had escalated to as high as 145 percent.

“At one point, they reached 145 percent… I may have gotten a bit carried away,” he remarked, noting the rates were subsequently lowered.

He asserted that the two nations now “compete very nicely,” while still nurturing what he characterized as a “robust business relationship.”

Trump acknowledged China’s economic prowess, stating, “You must have great respect for China for the work they do… their manufacturing capabilities are impressive,” he noted.

He pointed out that China's manufacturing scale has resulted in high production levels, particularly in the automotive industry.

The president confirmed his plans to travel to China in the upcoming weeks, indicating that the trip was postponed due to ongoing military operations. “Yes, I’ll be going… we pushed it back a few weeks,” he stated.

He framed the upcoming visit as a continuation of engagement with Beijing, despite both countries being economic rivals.

Trump also positioned the United States as the premier global economy, declaring it to be the “hottest country anywhere in the world.”

The ties between the United States and China remain deeply intertwined through trade and investment, even amidst ongoing tensions over tariffs, technology, and access to markets.

Both nations have maintained high-level discussions to navigate their competitive landscape and avert escalation, particularly given the global economic implications of their relationship.
