Washington, April 22 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed complete support and heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the citizens of India following the tragic loss of at least 28 lives in a terrorist assault in Kashmir attributed to a faction associated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

"Extremely distressing news from Kashmir," President Trump posted on Truth Social.

"The US stands firm with India against terrorism. We mourn for the souls lost, and for the swift recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi and the remarkable people of India have our unwavering support and deepest sympathies. Our thoughts are with you all."

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt informed journalists that President Trump received a briefing about the situation from National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

"What we have learned is that dozens have died and even more have been injured in a heinous terrorist act at a well-known tourist destination in South Kashmir," Leavitt stated, adding, "President Trump will reach out to Prime Minister Modi at the earliest opportunity to convey his sincere condolences for the lives lost. Our prayers are with the injured and our nation stands firmly with our ally India. Such horrific acts by terrorists reaffirm why we continue our mission for peace and stability globally."

The United States has consistently supported India's fight against global terrorism and recently facilitated the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian of Pakistani origin, who is alleged to have played a significant role in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, also conducted by Lashkar-e-Taiba.

This extradition decision was announced during Prime Minister Modi's visit to the White House in February, marking their first meeting since the beginning of President Trump's second term.

Rana was brought to India last Thursday.

During his first term, President Trump urged Pakistan to prosecute Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba, who had remained unpunished for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attack despite international scrutiny and pressure.
