New Delhi, Nov 22 (NationPress) Dr. Deepak Kumar Jaiswal, the National Convenor of CONSENT and the National President of the National Front of Indian Trade Unions (NFITU), expressed his approval on Saturday for the new labour codes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, labeling them as a pivotal advancement towards ensuring dignity, safety, and fair compensation for the workforce in India.
In a conversation with IANS, he highlighted that these reforms are a reflection of Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to enhancing worker rights and modernizing India’s labour framework in accordance with global benchmarks.
Dr. Jaiswal commended the implementation of timely minimum wage policies, referring to it as a historic measure that will effectively reduce exploitation and provide much-needed stability for workers.
“The recent discussions held with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya have further solidified the government's commitment to enact reforms that truly serve the interests of the workers,” Dr. Jaiswal stated.
He emphasized that the new regulations will yield substantial benefits to the lives of countless labourers across the nation.
Focusing on the inclusion of women in the workforce, Dr. Jaiswal praised the initiatives aimed at ensuring equal pay and eradicating gender discrimination, alongside regulations for safer work environments.
He noted that women make up half of the population and are increasingly integrated into the labour market, and the government has addressed their issues with utmost seriousness and care.
Additionally, he applauded the move to extend social security coverage to over 40 crore workers, which he regarded as a significant step showcasing the Prime Minister’s resolve to provide protection and respect to every worker in India.
With 14 major organizations linked to NFITU, Dr. Jaiswal mentioned that extensive consultations were conducted prior to finalizing the reforms, ensuring that the voices of the workers were adequately considered.
Regarding the introduction of double pay for overtime and complimentary health screenings for workers aged 40 and above, Dr. Jaiswal pointed out that these initiatives clearly demonstrate the Modi government’s prioritization of the dignity and quality of life for workers.
He drew parallels between India’s labour laws and international standards, asserting that the country’s regulations are now aligning with global practices.
He added that while certain unions had previously resorted to frequent strikes, the overarching goal should always be to engage in constructive dialogue and recognize the government’s positive actions when warranted.
Dr. Jaiswal noted that previous administrations, including that of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, failed to implement such reforms despite persistent demands.
He stressed that NFITU maintains a neutral political stance; however, as a responsible trade union, it will continue to voice concerns regarding any shortcomings while also acknowledging positive developments made in the interest of workers.
