Kabul, Nov 18 (NationPress) A tragic road accident in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar resulted in the deaths of two individuals while eight others sustained injuries, according to provincial police spokesperson Sayed Tayeb Hamad on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when a vehicle transporting female staff from a clinic collided head-on with another car.

Unfortunately, a female doctor and a child died at the scene, while the injured included six clinic employees, another child, and their driver, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

This marks the second serious accident within the eastern region in just three days.

In an earlier incident on Sunday in Laghman province, adjacent to Nangarhar, six passengers lost their lives, and three more were injured.

On November 16, a separate accident in the Qarghayi district of Laghman province resulted in six deaths and three injuries, as stated by the provincial police.

This accident took place on the highway connecting Kabul to eastern provinces, when a passenger vehicle veered off course and ignited, leading to the immediate deaths of six individuals and injuring three others, who are currently receiving medical attention.

Authorities cited reckless driving as the leading cause of these incidents. Fatal road accidents are alarmingly common in Afghanistan, stemming from poor road conditions, reckless driving habits, challenging terrains, vehicle overloading, dangerous overtaking, and speeding.

Additionally, on November 14, police reported that one person was killed and two others were injured in a separate road incident in Zabul province, southern Afghanistan. This crash happened on the Kabul-Kandahar highway, a crucial transport route linking the capital to the south.

According to local police, a vehicle collided with an oncoming car, resulting in one fatality and two individuals hospitalized.

Another unfortunate incident on November 4 in Parwan province led to four deaths and two injuries when a car collided with a truck in Siagurd district. Both drivers involved have been taken into custody as investigations continue.
