London/New Delhi, June 3 (NationPress) Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Tuesday expressed India's gratitude for the UK government's demonstration of solidarity and support to New Delhi in combating terrorism during his meeting with Oliver Robbins, the Permanent Under-Secretary (PUS) at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The talks occurred during the 17th India-UK Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) and the inaugural Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue held in New Delhi.
"India and the UK are Comprehensive Strategic Partners (CSP). The FOC offered a platform to assess and debate the broad spectrum of bilateral relations. Both parties welcomed the completion of the India-UK FTA and the Double Contribution Convention. FS and PUS explored avenues for enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, finance, defense and security, counter-terrorism, technology, science, innovation, green energy, climate change, health, education, and interpersonal relations to deepen and diversify our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted.
The previous FOC took place in May 2024 in London. Additionally, both parties conducted the first session of the Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue (SETCD) to address export controls aimed at facilitating increased technology collaboration in strategic domains.
"FS communicated India's gratitude for the UK's expression of solidarity and support in the ongoing battle against terrorism. FS and PUS also exchanged perspectives on regional and global matters of shared interest, including the developments in Russia-Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific region, and West Asia," the MEA conveyed.
Oliver Robbins became the Permanent Under-Secretary at the FCDO in January 2025. As PUS, he leads the UK's Diplomatic Service and serves as the senior policy advisor to the Foreign Secretary, overseeing the management of the FCDO in the UK as well as its embassies and high commissions globally.
"I am thrilled to be in India to help elevate one of the UK's most crucial partnerships globally. In a world that is becoming increasingly complex, both governments share a strong ambition to elevate this partnership to new heights. I look forward to collaborating with Foreign Secretary Misri to turn that vision into reality," Robbins remarked after the high-level discussions in New Delhi.
The British High Commission in New Delhi reported that both nations celebrated significant advancements achieved across the full spectrum of the partnership since the last consultations in London, including the announcement of a historic trade agreement.
"Economic growth remains the top priority for the UK Government. Both sides agreed to work towards realizing the shared vision of the two Prime Ministers for an ambitious partnership between the UK and India over the next decade," the British High Commission stated.
On May 6, the UK and India finalized a landmark trade agreement that aims to reshape their partnership for future generations, strengthening trade relations, creating jobs, and promoting shared prosperity. This deal is projected to boost bilateral trade, which is currently valued at £43 billion, by an additional £25.5 billion.
During his visit, Robbins is also expected to engage with a variety of Indian government representatives, focusing on the G20 and home affairs.
