London, July 12 (NationPress) The United Kingdom is preparing for its third heatwave of 2025, as exceptionally hot and dry weather conditions dominate large areas of the nation.
According to the Met Office, extensive regions of the UK have met the official criteria for a heatwave, with hot, dry, and sunny weather expected to persist through the weekend.
A high-pressure system remains prevalent, and temperatures are anticipated to soar to between 33-34 degrees Celsius in some areas over the next two days.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington stated, "This heatwave is notably more extensive than those we have seen earlier this summer."
On Friday, the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office issued an amber heat-health alert for much of England.
This alert indicates that widespread weather impacts are likely to affect the entire health service.
At this alert level, health impacts may begin to be observed among the wider population, particularly affecting individuals over 65 and those with pre-existing health conditions, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as reported by Xinhua.
The Environment Agency has noted that England is facing the driest start to a year since 1976.
In June, reservoir levels decreased at nearly three-quarters of monitored sites, with all regions now exhibiting below-average water storage.
The agency has warned that continued dry conditions could exert further pressure on water resources and the environment.
Tim Fox, a fellow at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and co-author of a report on climate change adaptation, stressed that the recent heatwaves in Britain are not isolated occurrences but are likely to become increasingly common.
"As UK summers grow hotter and longer, the implications will extend far beyond mere discomfort," he said.
The heat will persist into Saturday, with temperatures predicted to reach 31 degrees Celsius in parts of central and northeast Scotland, potentially making it the hottest day of the year thus far north of the border.
This heatwave marks the third official heatwave of 2025 already.
