Key Takeaways
The United Nations, February 17 (NationPress) - Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is set to travel to New Delhi to attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026, where he will advocate for a more inclusive approach to artificial intelligence and highlight the associated risks, as stated by his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, on Monday.
Guterres is slated to address the opening session, which will feature numerous world leaders and an estimated 35,000 participants from over 100 nations.
Among the attendees are twenty heads of state, including President Emmanuel Macron of France, Pedro Sánchez Perez-Castejon of Spain, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, and Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
Guterres has praised India’s role in organizing this summit.
“I commend India for its leadership regarding these summits,” he expressed at a press conference last month.
Dujarric indicated that Guterres aims to ensure that the global community comprehends both the opportunities and dangers of AI, advocating for a collaborative approach rather than allowing decisions to rest solely in the hands of a select few governments, countries, or corporations.
“The evolution of AI will significantly affect our lives, and many nations may be greatly impacted without having a voice,” he remarked. “It’s vital that decisions are driven by factual evidence and scientific insight,” he added.
During his visit to New Delhi, Guterres plans to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu.
He will also engage with international leaders at the summit, as well as prominent figures from the tech industry and members of the International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, which he established last month.
