UN General Assembly Approves Resolutions Reinforcing Two-State Solution as Sole Route to Sustainable Peace

United Nations, Dec 4 (NationPress) The UN General Assembly (UNGA) approved two resolutions urging Israel to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories and the Syrian Golan Heights, reinforcing the two-state solution as the sole route to sustainable peace in the Middle East.

One resolution, which received 157 votes in favor, eight against, and seven abstentions, demanded that Israel halt all settlement activities and remove settlers from the occupied Palestinian territories, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

This document expressed steadfast support, in accordance with international law, for the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, highlighting the urgent need to engage in a peace process in the Middle East.

Additionally, the assembly adopted another resolution stating that Israel has not complied with Security Council resolution 497 of 1981, rendering its jurisdiction over the occupied Syrian Golan null and void.

The resolution called for Israel to renew discussions regarding the Syrian and Lebanese tracks and to withdraw from all occupied Syrian Golan.

“Peace and security will never be achieved through force or occupation,” remarked UNGA President Philemon Yang during the meeting.

The two-state solution is the only viable route to enduring peace in the Middle East, he asserted, adding that “After more than a year of war and suffering, the realization of this vision is more urgent than ever before.”

Yang urged for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional release of all hostages, stating that now is the moment for all to “bury the hatchet once and for all.”
