Did US Airstrikes in Yemen's Houthi-held Capital Claim Lives and Cause Injuries?

Sanaa, April 27 (NationPress) Overnight airstrikes conducted by the US on Yemen's Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to ten others, according to health officials aligned with the Houthis. The strikes targeted various sites across the city, with reports indicating that among the injured were two women and three children, as noted by the Xinhua news agency.

All injured parties were promptly transported to local hospitals for medical care.

According to al-Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthis, US forces also conducted additional airstrikes in several northern provinces. Furthermore, three strikes were reported to have targeted the Galaxy Leader, a cargo ship seized by the Houthis in November 2023 amidst attacks on shipping routes in the Red Sea tied to Israel. No casualties were reported concerning these additional strikes.

In a separate incident, the Houthis asserted responsibility for a missile strike aimed at Israel's Nevatim Air Base in the Negev region, marking their second attack within a span of 48 hours. The Israeli military confirmed the missile was intercepted following activation of warning sirens in the Arava region and near the Dead Sea, with no casualties reported as per Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea declared that a hypersonic ballistic missile was used in the strike against the base, vowing to persist with military operations in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. "Our military operations in support of the Palestinian people will continue until the aggression on Gaza ends and the blockade is lifted," stated Sarea.

These recent airstrikes follow a previous operation where US forces targeted the Ras Isa fuel port in Yemen last week, leading to the deaths of at least 74 individuals and injuring 171 others.

The strikes coincide with resumed negotiations in Rome between the US and Iran concerning Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program, which the US has linked to its military actions in Yemen.

The US aims to target the Houthis due to their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, a vital global trade route, as well as their aggression towards Israel. The Houthis are the last militant faction in Iran's self-identified "Axis of Resistance" capable of regularly striking Israel.

Tensions between the Houthis and US forces have sharply escalated since March 15, when Washington resumed its airstrike campaign against Houthi targets in Yemen, a move criticized by numerous regional governments as a potential threat to broader stability.
