Seoul, Jan 2 (NationPress) The US Department of Commerce has made a preliminary determination to levy anti-dumping tariffs of up to 65.72 percent on select chemical materials imported from South Korea, as reported by Seoul's industry ministry on Friday.
The Department revealed its initial affirmative decision to impose anti-dumping duties ranging from 10.94 percent to 65.72 percent on two South Korean firms exporting monomers and oligomers to the United States, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, as cited by the Yonhap news agency.
This ruling follows approximately six months after the US commenced a dumping investigation into specific monomers and oligomers from Korea and Taiwan, initiated by a request from a US chemical manufacturer.
The preliminary tariff margins show a considerable decrease compared to the original allegations which suggested dumping margins between 137 percent and 188 percent, as noted by the ministry.
The ministry has stated it will maintain close communication with the affected companies to ensure they are not subjected to unfair treatment in the final ruling anticipated in May.
In a separate development, last month, South Korea's trade authority conducted a preliminary assessment to impose anti-dumping tariffs on PVC paste resin imports from Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden after its initial inquiry indicated potential harm to the domestic market.
Under this decision, the Korea Trade Commission (KTC) will recommend the Ministry of Economy and Finance to implement anti-dumping tariffs ranging from 25.79 to 42.81 percent on these imports, as per official statements.
PVC paste resin is a resilient plastic material created from fine powder, utilized in various everyday items such as wallpaper, sofas, shoes, and gloves.
Additionally, the commission has started investigating claims that three Chinese companies sold cold-rolled carbon or alloy steel products below fair market prices, according to reports.
