Caracas, Oct 3 (NationPress) Venezuela's defense and foreign ministries have strongly criticized the unauthorized entry of US military aircraft.
The aircraft were identified on October 2, 2025, around 75 kilometers from Venezuelan shores, as stated by Foreign Minister Yvan Gil via social media.
According to Venezuela, this action represents a provocation that undermines national sovereignty and breaches international law as well as the Convention on International Civil Aviation, he noted.
The actions jeopardized the safety of aviation in the Caribbean Sea, the minister reported, mentioning that additional incursions were also observed, as per Xinhua.
Previously, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez condemned the presence of US aircraft and described it as military harassment and a threat from the US government against Venezuelans who desire peace, employment, and happiness.
Padrino revealed that Venezuela's air defense system had detected a minimum of five US aircraft operating at 400 knots at an altitude of 35,000 feet. In a collaborative statement with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Defense Ministry noted the incursion of foreign planes occurred just 75 kilometers from Venezuela's coast. A plane belonging to Avianca Airlines from Colombia also observed these maneuvers, according to officials.
Padrino Lopez cautioned Washington against any military action targeting the South American nation. “Don't make that mistake,” he asserted.
The recent flyovers represent a heightened level of tension between the two nations, especially following the deployment of US warships in the southern Caribbean, officially intended to combat cocaine trafficking. In recent weeks, US strikes against small vessels allegedly involved in drug smuggling from Venezuela have resulted in at least 14 fatalities.
