Caracas, Sep 20 (NationPress) Venezuela has urged the United Nations Security Council to call for an immediate cessation of U.S. military operations in the Caribbean.
In a message posted on the social media platform Telegram on Friday (local time), Foreign Minister Yvan Gil shared a video of a speech delivered at the UN by Venezuela's permanent representative, Alexander Yanez, stating that the request was made on behalf of President Nicolas Maduro.
During the speech, Yanez informed the Security Council that his nation has been subjected to systematic harassment from Washington, which includes smear campaigns, unilateral sanctions, and a dismissal of Venezuelan institutions, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
He cautioned that the circumstances have escalated into a more perilous situation due to the deployment of U.S. naval, air, and ground forces in the Caribbean, including the dispatch of a nuclear submarine, actions he claims violate the UN Charter.
Yanez also highlighted U.S. reports of extrajudicial executions occurring in the Caribbean.
Venezuela has called on the UN to denounce these U.S. actions, which it argues jeopardize stability in both the South American nation and the broader region.
Previously, on September 15, President Maduro stated that communication channels between the United States and Venezuela have been severed due to ongoing aggression from Washington.
"I can now announce that communication with the U.S. government has been cut off by them," Maduro declared at a press conference in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
The President attributed this breakdown to threats and coercion from Washington.
Maduro emphasized that Venezuela has managed to maintain peace despite provocations from the United States.
He noted that for the past five weeks, Venezuela has faced numerous challenges while striving to uphold stability and has the legitimate right to defend itself against potential political, diplomatic, and military threats.
