Dhaka, Sep 27 (NationPress) The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, expressed that the recent surge of multifaceted violence directed at followers of Sanatan Dharma by the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has left the global community in disbelief.
Concerned about the persistent assaults on the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh, Hasina noted that the nation is currently facing a disturbing era of oppression against religious minorities.
On the celebration of Durga Puja, she extended her best wishes to all practitioners of the Sanatan faith in Bangladesh, highlighting that the festival's cultural and social significance transcends religious and caste boundaries.
“Previously, Durga Puja was usually a family-centric celebration in Bangladesh, but nowadays, community (barowari) Durga Pujas have gained prominence. The wave of multidimensional violence unleashed upon the followers of Sanatan Dharma since August 5 of the previous year has astounded the world. Despite the ongoing persecution of religious minorities, I send my heartfelt wishes to all believers of the Sanatan faith in Bangladesh. May you all have a blessed Sharad season and may well-being prevail,” stated the former Prime Minister, as shared on the social media platforms of the Bangladesh Awami League.
She emphasized that the citizens of Bangladesh have consistently supported one another and celebrated joys together, showcasing their capacity for love and compassion.
“However, at present, the people of Bangladesh are being held captive by conspiratorial and extremist factions. In their reckless political maneuvering aimed at division and destruction, the Bangladesh Awami League remains resolute in its resistance,” the statement from the former PM articulated.
Hasina expressed optimism that the festival days would bring happiness, dispelling all malevolent forces.
“The future Bangladesh will once again be a place of communal harmony and religious diversity. In both joy and sorrow, we will stand together,” she asserted.
Earlier this week, the Awami League, under Hasina's leadership, denounced the attacks on temples and the vandalism of idols during the Durga Puja festivities.
The party criticized the Yunus regime, stating, “Since this illegitimate group took power, violence against Hindus and other minority groups has escalated.”
The Awami League conveyed serious concerns, claiming that the Yunus administration has rendered Bangladesh unsafe for individuals of all faiths and beliefs.
“People are unable to live according to their own ideologies. Under the direct sponsorship of these illegitimate occupiers, a new form of mob terror has emerged in Bangladesh. Consequently, these mobs are unrestrained in attacking any individual or community outside their own belief system. Religious sites, including shrines, mosques, and temples, have not been exempt from their assaults,” the Awami League stated.
