Tianjin, Aug 31 (NationPress) Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, graciously received Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival for the official reception for Heads of State and Heads of Government at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin on Sunday.
During the event, PM Modi exchanged greetings with Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan, with the trio posing for a photograph. Following this, PM Modi joined other global leaders for a family photo.
The SCO is a permanent intergovernmental organization founded in Shanghai on June 15, 2001. Its member states include: China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus. Additionally, the SCO has two observer states—Afghanistan and Mongolia—along with 14 dialogue partners such as Turkey, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, The Maldives, Myanmar, and The United Arab Emirates.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi had a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin. The leaders emphasized the necessity of maintaining peace and stability in border regions, reiterating their dedication to cooperation grounded in mutual respect, interests, and sensitivity.
"I had a productive meeting with President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. We assessed the positive trajectory in India-China relations since our last meeting in Kazan. We concurred on the significance of ensuring peace and tranquillity in border areas and reaffirmed our commitment to cooperation based on mutual respect, interests, and sensitivity," PM Modi stated in a post on X following their meeting.
Additionally, PM Modi met with Politburo Standing Committee member Cai Qi to discuss economic, political, and cultural exchanges between India and China.
On the summit's sidelines, PM Modi also interacted with several leaders, including Myanmar's State Security and Peace Commission Chairman, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Nepal's PM K.P. Sharma Oli, and the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu.
PM Modi arrived in Tianjin, China, on Saturday to participate in the two-day SCO Summit. After concluding his visit to Japan, he was warmly welcomed at the Binhai International Airport in Tianjin.
