As per a representative from the state Education Department, this excursion is part of the initiative titled North East Student Programme for Awareness, Reach and Knowledge on Space (NE-SPARKS).
This initiative will be executed by the North East Space Applications Centre (NE-SAC) under the auspices of the Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region).
The purpose of this tour is to spark interest and increase awareness about space science and technology, according to the official.
Located near Shillong, the NE-SAC is a collaborative effort between the Department of Science and the North Eastern Council (NEC) to provide developmental aid to the northeastern region (NER) through space science and technology.
The centre is charged with developing high-tech infrastructure to catalyze the holistic development of NER in India by offering support in space science and technology.
Additionally, the centre collaborates with the State Remote Sensing Application Centres of NER and serves as a central hub for implementing significant national and regional programs focused on natural resource management, infrastructure planning, healthcare, education, emergency communication, early disaster management warnings, and atmospheric science research.
The centre has successfully completed numerous application projects backed by user agencies in the region and has initiated research and development projects under the Earth Observation Applications Mission, ISRO Geo-sphere Biosphere Programme, Satellite Communications, Disaster Management Support, and Space Science Programmes.
The Union Home Minister presides over the NESAC Society, while the ISRO chief chairs the NESAC Governing Council.
