New Delhi, Oct 1 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a uniquely crafted commemorative postage stamp and a silver coin in celebration of the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), emphasizing the organization's role in the nation's history.
The ceremony took place at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi, attended by notable figures including RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
During his address, the Prime Minister elaborated on the importance of the commemorative coin.
"This Rs 100 coin features the National Emblem on one side and on the other side, an image of Bharat Mata in Varada Mudra, accompanied by a lion and a Swayamsevak showing respect towards her. This marks the first instance in Independent India where Bharat Mata has been depicted on our currency," he stated.
The coin, made of pure silver, holds a denomination of Rs 100.
On the reverse side, it showcases Bharat Mata with three Swayamsevaks saluting her, while the obverse side displays the Lion Capitol of the Ashoka Pillar.
The imagery mirrors the traditional poses seen at RSS events, where members bow in reverence to Bharat Mata.
Along with the coin, a special postage stamp commemorating '100 Years of the RSS' was also introduced.
PM Modi emphasized its symbolic importance, stating, "Today's special postal stamp carries significant value. We recognize the importance of the Republic Day parade. In 1963, the Sangh's Swayamsevaks proudly participated in the Republic Day Parade, and this stamp captures that historic moment."
The stamp honors a pivotal moment in RSS history when its Swayamsevaks marched on Rajpath, now known as Kartavya Path, during the Republic Day Parade of 1963.
This participation was at the invitation of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who had recognized the contributions of RSS volunteers during the India-China war in 1962.
For the Sangh, this episode remains a source of immense pride, symbolizing national service and dedication.
