Jaipur, Dec 31 (NationPress) In a significant security operation, Rajasthan Police in Tonk district intercepted 150 kg of explosive material (ammonium nitrate) that was being unlawfully transported in a vehicle. Authorities confirmed the apprehension of two individuals linked to this incident on Wednesday.
The operation took place at Chirauj village on National Highway-52, within the jurisdiction of Baroni police station.
Officials reported that the suspects had disguised the explosive material in bags of urea fertilizer to avoid detection. Initial questioning suggested that the cargo was intended for distribution within the Tonk region.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mrityunjay Mishra stated that the amount of ammonium nitrate seized was adequate to trigger a substantial explosion. He noted that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to identify the origins of the explosives and their intended use.
As per Omprakash Chaudhary, head of the District Special Team (DST), a police unit had established a checkpoint on the highway. At approximately 9 a.m., a Ciaz car traveling from Bundi to Tonk was observed transporting bags of fertilizer.
Upon finding the occupants suspicious, the police signaled for the vehicle to halt. However, the individuals allegedly tried to escape towards Chirauj village. The police pursued and successfully intercepted the car just outside the village.
The suspects were identified as Surendra (48) and Surendra Mochi (33), both residents of Karwar in Bundi district. Authorities indicated that the pair exhibited signs of nervousness during their interrogation.
A meticulous search of the vehicle uncovered ammonium nitrate concealed within four fertilizer sacks. Additionally, police confiscated 200 explosive cartridges, six bundles of safety fuse wire, and nearly 1,100 meters of wire.
Ongoing investigations aim to track the supply chain and determine if the explosives were meant for any criminal or terror-related activities.
In a separate incident just days prior, police seized a truck carrying explosive materials in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district and arrested two individuals linked to that case.
This incident occurred on Tuesday morning at Trinetra Circle under the Shrinathji police station jurisdiction. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shipra Rajawat reported that a Tata 407 truck without a license plate was stopped during a routine inspection while traveling from Amet towards Nathdwara.
During the search, police discovered a significant quantity of detonators, gelatin sticks, and other explosive materials in the vehicle. When questioned, the driver and his companion were unable to provide any valid documentation or permits for transporting explosives.
Authorities arrested Himmat Singh (30) and Bhagwat Singh (25) in connection with this case. Further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source of the explosives and their intended applications.
