Mumbai, Dec 31 (NationPress) Sadanand Date, the former director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has been named as the new director general of police (DGP) for Maharashtra, with a tenure of two years, as announced by the state government on Wednesday.
As a member of the 1990 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), Date will succeed Rashmi Shukla as she concludes her term on January 3.
The government order specifies that Date will serve in this capacity for a period of two years, regardless of his retirement age. He is set to turn 60 in December of the following year.
Prior to this appointment, Date was leading the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) until March 2024, after which he took charge of the NIA, India’s premier anti-terrorism body. Two weeks ago, he returned to Maharashtra at the state government's request to take up the role as DGP.
