Karwar (Karnataka), Dec 31 (NationPress) An alarming incident was reported on Wednesday involving a young woman passenger who faced sexual harassment by a male individual on a moving bus in Karwar district, Karnataka.

The victim took the initiative to record a video of the encounter, calling upon other women and girls to not endure silence in similar situations, but rather to assert themselves and speak out.

Her 2.44-minute video has gained traction on social media, receiving considerable praise for her bravery. She also included the local police in the video. In response, the Ankola police lodged a complaint, and Superintendent of Police M.N. Deepan assured that action would be taken against the accused based on the footage.

In the video, the victim recounts, “I was on my way to Ankola with my brother. He preferred the window seat, so he moved and took that place. The seat beside me was vacant, and a young man came and sat down next to me. He looked to be around 28 years old.”

She explained that she felt unable to ask him to relocate since it was a government bus. “I was dozing off. When I woke up, I found his hand on my chest. I was taken aback and started trembling. Initially, I didn’t know how to react. But then I summoned the courage to confront him, asking if he came to buses for such purposes,” she recounted.

“Even after I admonished him, he remained seated next to me. I rebuked him again and shoved him away from the seat. I realized I couldn’t let him get away with this. When the bus halted, the accused tried to shield his face and exit the bus,” she added.

“I recorded a video and struck him on the head. At that moment, he began insisting that he hadn’t done anything wrong. I wanted this video to reach his family, as his actions should be known to his father, sisters, and other relatives,” she emphasized.

In her appeal to women and girls, she stated, “If boys behave inappropriately towards you, don’t keep silent. It’s essential to stand up for yourself, regardless of who supports you. Call for help and make sure their misconduct is exposed. Never stay quiet for any reason.”

“These individuals will only understand the pain if their own family members suffer the same distress. They thrive on inflicting harm on other women,” she remarked.

Throughout the video, she can be seen confronting the accused, cautioning him that it was his first and last warning and that there would be consequences if he repeated such actions. She also insisted he show his face to the camera as he attempted to conceal it with his bag while disembarking.
