Mangaluru, April 28 (NationPress) - The Karnataka Police have apprehended a young man within the Belthangadi police station jurisdiction of Mangaluru district for allegedly sexually harassing a female student via messages, as reported by the police on Monday.
Authorities have also filed a First Information Report (FIR) against two Hindu activists for assaulting the accused, who belongs to a minority community.
According to the police, the suspect, a volleyball player, attended a private college and also worked as a coach for aspiring volleyball players.
The accused is said to have harassed a 17-year-old girl by sending her inappropriate messages. After persistent harassment, the girl confided in her family, prompting them to lodge a complaint with the police.
Subsequently, a group of Hindu activists learned about the situation, confronted the accused, and physically assaulted him before turning him over to law enforcement.
Initial investigations indicated that during the confrontation, the activists allegedly seized the accused's mobile phone. Upon examination, they reportedly discovered numerous videos showing the accused in intimate situations with various girls.
In the meantime, the accused has filed a complaint against the Hindu activists for the assault, leading to the registration of an FIR against the two individuals.
The police have taken the accused, who resides in Karkala town, into custody on charges of harassment. They are currently investigating whether he has a history of threatening and exploiting female students and are also reviewing the vast collection of videos found on his device.
